ATARAXOS

FAQs

Ataraxos takes an integrative approach to mental healthcare. We recognise that mental health does not exist in isolation from the rest of the body, and that factors such as sleep, physical health, lifestyle and stress can all influence how we feel and function.

Our approach combines evidence-based clinical psychology with a broader understanding of the factors that influence mental health. Where appropriate, we also collaborate with trusted practitioners across different areas of healthcare to provide more connected care.

Both psychologists and clinical psychologists are registered health professionals who provide psychological services. Clinical psychologists have completed specialised postgraduate training in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions and complex psychological difficulties.

At Ataraxos, our clinical psychologists use evidence-based psychological therapies tailored to each person's needs, goals and circumstances.

Integrative mental healthcare combines evidence-based complementary therapies and approaches with standard psychological care. This may include psychological therapy and, when appropriate, medication, alongside other evidence-based approaches that may support mental health and overall wellbeing.

At Ataraxos, we consider the individual as a whole and work collaboratively to determine which combination of treatments and approaches is most appropriate for each person. Our aim is to bring together the best available evidence across different areas of healthcare to provide personalised, connected care.

A sleep psychologist is a psychologist who specialises in the assessment and psychological treatment of sleep difficulties. Sleep psychologists can help with concerns such as insomnia, difficulties adjusting to shift work, and the psychological and behavioural factors that can contribute to ongoing sleep problems.

Yes. Psychological treatment can be highly effective for a range of sleep difficulties, particularly insomnia. Evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) address the thoughts, behaviours and patterns that can contribute to persistent sleep difficulties.

Improving sleep can also have a positive impact on mood, emotional regulation, concentration and overall wellbeing.

At Ataraxos, we believe that healthcare works best when health professionals work together. We only accept clients with a referral from their GP. Your GP can help us understand your broader health needs and, where appropriate, work collaboratively with your Ataraxos psychologist to support your care.

Medicare rebates may be available for eligible psychological services through a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Private health insurance rebates may also be available depending on your level of cover. Eligibility and rebate amounts vary, so we recommend contacting our team at [email protected] if you would like to discuss your circumstances.

Each session is a safe, confidential space where you can explore your concerns, goals and challenges with your psychologist. Treatment is collaborative and tailored to your individual needs, using evidence-based psychological approaches. Your psychologist will work with you to understand what is contributing to your difficulties and develop strategies to support meaningful change. Sessions typically last 50 minutes.

It is completely normal to feel uncertain about starting therapy. You can contact us to discuss your concerns and explore whether psychological treatment through Ataraxos is a good fit for your needs before booking an appointment.

No special preparation is needed. However, it can be helpful to think about your main concerns, what you would like support with and what you hope to achieve from psychological treatment. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions and discuss what you would like to focus on during your first session.

Your privacy is paramount to us. All personal and health information you share is handled with the strictest confidentiality and in accordance with Australian privacy laws and professional ethical standards.

We use secure systems for therapy and communication and take appropriate steps to protect your information. We are committed to creating a safe and trusted environment where you can feel fully supported and protected.
